Background[ edit ] Christians seek to uphold the seriousness of wedding vows. Yet, they respond with compassion to deep hurts by recognizing that divorce , though less than the ideal, is sometimes necessary to relieve one partner of intolerable hardship, unfaithfulness or desertion. Christian Egalitarians believe in an equal partnership of the wife and husband with neither being designated as the leader in the marriage or family. Instead, the wife and husband share a fully equal partnership in both their marriage and in the family. Its proponents teach “the fundamental biblical principle of the equality of all human beings before God”. Christian Complementarians prescribe husband-headship—a male-led hierarchy. Without necessarily using the term “obey”, they believe women have “different but complementary roles and responsibilities in marriage”.

And let’s be honest, just because you don’t get divorced, doesn’t mean your marriage is a good one. Does a biblical understanding of the roles and purpose of marriage really make a difference in the amount of happiness a couple will experience?

Establishing Dating Guidelines for Your Teen By Dennis and Barbara Rainey In the fading twilight, the headlights of an approaching car reminded Bill to reach for the dashboard and turn on his lights. As the horde of rush-hour cars streamed by, Bill reminisced about the teenage daughter he had just picked up from band practice. He smiled as he thought about all those after-school trips over the last few years: Her childhood has passed so quickly.
Usually Bill and his daughter made small talk on their brief ride home. Bill was concerned about the growing emotional distance between them. Sure, he knew this gap was normal for teenagers and their parents. He hoped the conversation he was about to initiate would help close that gap. He had prayed for an opportunity to talk to her alone—without her three brothers around. She looked nonchalantly out her window as their car crossed a small bridge. Bill smiled and probed:

Sunday 25 November Although marrying between faiths is entirely legal in Britain, couples often face resistance and hostility, both from family members and religious leaders. Occasionally both Muslims and Christians feel pressure to convert to another’s faith in order to avoid fallouts and ostracism. The new guidelines by the Christian-Muslim forum reinforce the need for religious leaders to accept inter-faith marriages and warn that no one should ever feel forced to convert.
The publication of the document, which will receive a high-profile launch at Westminster Abbey today, is significant because those supporting it include imams from the more orthodox Islamic schools of thought and evangelical Christians. Among those who have signed up to the document include Sheikh Ibrahim Mogra, a prominent Leicester-based imam from the conservative Deobandi school, the Right Rev Paul Hendricks, associate bishop of Southwark Catholic Archdiocese, and Amra Bone, one of the only women in the country to sit in a Sharia court.

To Kiss or Not to Kiss Where to draw the line in a premarital relationship. Last time I appeared on this site, I said that I would lay out my position on biblical dating and then turn it over to all of you to determine the rest of the column’s topics by your questions. You have not disappointed. As many of you will know from the Boundless blog, The Line, the last piece generated many posts and comments, from the challenging to the supportive, the general to the specific.
In addition to what all of you saw on the blog, I have received dozens of questions and comments in e-mails, which I and the folks at Boundless have culled through to see what the most pressing questions seem to be. Judging from both frequency and “passion,” the most pressing questions arising from the last piece involve physical involvement — which I’m about to cover, initiation of relationships especially the bit about involving the woman’s father , and the practical details of how one of these relationships works.
All of these topics will, Lord willing, be covered in future columns. It’s simply impossible for me to address all of the fantastic individual questions and comments we’ve received, but know that we will do our very best to incorporate as many as possible into the columns themselves and the blog discussions that follow. On to our topic for this column. Quite a few of you asked questions or made comments about my statement in Biblical Dating, an Introduction that “Biblical dating assumes NO physical intimacy” outside of marriage.
Many wanted to know, did I really mean no physical intimacy? What about showing affection? Isn’t it sex outside of marriage that Scripture explicitly prohibits? How can you say definitively that other things are wrong?
The Apostle Paul gave the directive to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6: Yet, I believe there is another form of being unequally yoked. How can we as parents help guide our children into making the best decision for a life partner?

Religion, Politics and Society Chapter 6: Interfaith Relations Muslims around the world agree that Islam is the one true faith that leads to salvation. Many Muslims also say it is their religious duty to convert others to Islam. Many Muslims say they know little about Christianity and other faiths. And few believe Islam and other religions have a lot in common. Even in countries where a substantial proportion of the population is non-Muslim, most Muslims report that all or most of their friends also are Muslim.
And while interfaith meetings and classes of Muslims and Christians are fairly common in sub-Saharan Africa, few Muslims in other regions participate in such gatherings. Few Muslims see conflict between religious groups as a very big national problem. In fact, most consider unemployment, crime and corruption as bigger national problems than religious conflict.
Asked specifically about Christian-Muslim hostilities, few Muslims say hostilities are widespread. Islam and Eternal Salvation In 34 of the 38 countries where the question was asked, at least half of Muslims believe that Islam is the one true religion that can lead to eternal life in heaven. In most countries surveyed in sub-Saharan Africa, more than six-in-ten Muslims say that only Islam can lead to eternal life.
Similarly, in all but one country surveyed in Central Asia, at least six-in-ten Muslims say that Islam is the only path to eternal life.
Relationships and Dating in the Bible Does the Bible say anything about dating? No, but it does describe relationships. If “dating” is defined as two single friends of the opposite sex doing things together for fun without any attraction or romantic desire or intimacy involved at all, there is no issue to discuss regarding dating.
